Brandon Medical light the way for Paediatric Care starting with Great Ormond Street Hospital

By installing the world's best LED theatre lights, Brandon Medical has transformed the ocean theatres at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust (GOSH).

The Hospital continually improves their services by incorporating the latest medical technology made available to the NHS.

Brandon Medical's award winning Quasar HD-LED operating theatre uses a unique colour transformation technology to produce very high quality light from LEDs.

The light gives the best colour rendition of any operating theatre light. The nature of paediatric surgery requires high levels of light over a small surface area. Quasar HD-LED delivers an intense high quality light enabling surgeons to maximize accuracy during surgical procedures. This reduces eye strain and fatigue to enhance the surgeon's concentration.

In addition to high performance, Brandon 's Quasar was chosen for its economical and environmental features. The light has been designed to be in line with the NHS's 2012 carbon emissions target. HD-LED® lights use up to 70 per cent less energy than conventional medical lighting and have consistently exceeded the standards laid down in environmental legislation. The contribution to CO 2 reduction is approximately 1.25 tonnes per year per operating theatre, providing the Trust with substantial economic and environmental savings.

Work at GOSH has now been completed after Brandon won the contract in June 2010.

Adrian & Graeme EBA 2010

Brandon was selected from 15,000 applicants for the ceremony held at London's Canary Wharf. Other representatives at the awards include Centrica Plc, Bovis Lend Lease and the quirky but successful British sports car manufacturer, Morgan.

The European Business Award is an independent programme designed to recognise and promote excellence, best practice and innovation in the European business community. Graeme Hall, Managing Director of Brandon Medical said “To be short listed for an award alongside companies with the stature of British Land, Admiral Group and ARM is a real privilege and a testimony to our innovation credentials.”

Brandon Medical was selected for pioneering its HD-LED and Symposia technologies. HD-LED is a technology employed in surgical lighting which is unique in offering full spectrum colour rendition, high light intensity and significantly reduced energy consumption. Brandon's Symposia is revolutionising medical communication through the use of AV technology.

Selecting the country representatives was no easy task because the judges were extremely impressed by the high calibre of entrants. Brandon Medical have shown real innovation and commercial acumen to get this far and will now battle it out to scoop a prestigious Ruban d'Honneur. Brandon will now be judged against the best of all the European countries by a panel of economists, academics, business leaders, politicians and media owners and hope to become the top scoring company and win their category.

We wish Brandon Medical the very best for the European Business Awards 2010!
