Sponsorship of 'Business Commitment to the Community' award
BUPA is delighted to be supporting this year’s British Chambers of Commerce Chamber Awards, and in particular, the Business Commitment to the Community award.
At BUPA we are continuously working with the BCC on joint initiatives to offer competitive rates of private health cover to members and as a provident health and care organisation, we also take an active interest in people’s wellbeing. That’s why we’re proud to be sponsoring this year’s Business Commitment to the Community Award.
Supporting the community has previously been seen as the responsibility of large corporate companies, but more recently SMEs are turning their attention to this worthwhile pursuit. Traditionally smaller companies have been put off due to the perceived costs and administration requirements. However, with recent research indicating that 81 percent of British employees agree that responsible organisations are more likely to be creative and innovative*, and the general belief that a good business reputation can be beneficial to all organisations, in terms of attracting customers and motivating staff, it is something that is increasingly popular. Research now shows that it is currently estimated that SMEs make a social contribution of up to £3 billion to the community*.
Many BCC members realise the importance of such social responsibility. It can help businesses succeed by building sales, developing the workforce, creating enthusiasm, gaining loyalty, and in between even build trust of both employees and customers. Organisations are also perceived to be stronger, and work better when they have the support and respect of all stakeholders, including customers, employees and the local community.
The winner of the BUPA Business Commitment to the Community award will not only support the idea of responsibility and sustainability within the community, but also be able to demonstrate their commitment, by way of schemes, initiatives or policies that have a positive impact on the local community or environment.
As well as being dedicated to supporting this award, BUPA is also committed to its own community initiatives through our BUPA Community Connections programme. We have various schemes that our employees can get involved in, from voluntary education mentoring right through to team challenges and events, such as the BUPA Great North Run. We are also dedicated to initiatives supporting the homeless, the elderly, and as you would expect from the UK’s leading independent health care provider, we dedicate a large amount of our resources to health research through the BUPA Foundation.
